Ballet West

Alex MacFarlan

After training for three years under the direction of former Ballet West Artist Adam Sage, MacFarlan joined Ballet West II in 2007. Since joining the main company he has risen to the rank of First Soloist. Among his favorite roles are ‘Romeo’ and ‘Lensky’ from John Cranko’s Romeo and Juliet and Onegin, as well as ‘Hamlet’ from David Bintley’s The Shakespeare Suite. He has had the opportunity to perform on great stages, such as Kennedy Center and the Gran Teatro de La Habana. Still, he considers the Capitol Theater and the Eccles Theater his favorite venues. Alex loves participating in the creation of new works, and he particularly admires the choreographic processes of Nicolo Fonte, Africa Guzman, and Matthew Neenan.

Alex is also a graduate of the University of Utah with a B.S. in Consumer Studies, and he enjoys helping dancers with their career transitions.
