Jessica Baynes

A former TEDx speaker and United Nations Civil Society presenter, Jessica Baynes is a passionate advocate for dance education. Baynes graduated from San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts with an emphasis in dance and attended University of Utah School of Dance on merit scholarship, where she received her BFA in Modern Dance. Her research has been highlighted and funded by platforms such as TED.com, National Endowment for the Arts, National Dance Education Organization, International Association for Dance Medicine & Science, the National Dance School of Panamá, and Salt Lake City Arts Council. 


Baynes founded the arts-for-health organization, Healing in Motion Dance, which offers adaptive ballet classes to participants with neurological conditions that impair movement such as Parkinson disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke, and traumatic brain injury. Baynes has also been dancing Flamenco for over 20 years. Baynes has choreographed for presenters including Ballet West, Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP), Sabor Andaluz Dance Company, loveDANCEmore, and Fem Dance Company. She also holds a 600-hour Authentic Pilates™ teacher certification from the United States Pilates Association and the New York Pilates Studio©. 


Most recently, Baynes taught on faculty at the University of Utah Department of Ballet. She is currently on full-time faculty at Ballet West Academy, teaching Modern Dance to the Ballet West Trainee Division, and Contemporary and Flamenco technique in the Academy's Professional Training Division. She is also the Ballet West Adult Division Manager.
